Alriiiiiiiiight! There is a lot of talk in the world about fast fashion vs. sustainable fashion. What makes something sustainable? Why should I worry about the way it's made? What makes something ethical vs. slow? TRUST ME, when I see these words it makes my head spin too.
Let me break it down for you so we're all on the same page here.
Sustainable Fashion is the umbrella term that can be used to encompass all of these trending words that I'm going to break down below. Sustainable Fashion is ever changing and evolving with time.
Number One! ~ Ethical Fashion - This addresses the ethical treatment, pay and work health standards of the garment worker. This refers to how the product is made and how the garment is affecting the community IN which it is made. When I think ethical I think fair-trade, safe working conditions, positive impact on the community and overall great quality of life for the garment worker.
Number Two! ~ Eco- Fashion - This term was coined by Marci Zaroff nearly 20 years ago and reflects the way in which a garment impacts the environment.
Number Three! ~ Slow Fashion - Shifts our mindset into slowing down the fashion seasons and creating more longevity in our clothing. This means high quality fabrics and taking care of our garments while wearing and washing.
